Gohmert: China trying to force U.S. into bankruptcy
Chris Jester doesn’t know what career path he’ll take after graduating from Spring Hill High School this month, but the nation’s direction isn’t giving him great comfort, he said.
“I’m mainly concerned with why we’re spending so much money on unnecessary items,” Jester said. “Everyone is so dependent on the government. In a tough economy, you should try to make it better or make something happen, rather than wait for it to be given to you.”
His comments and questions were among several from about 100 Spring Hill seniors to U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert on Monday. Gohmert said the situation is particularly grim with other nations waiting for an American government bankruptcy.
“The thing that’s saving us right now — China. Their economy is teetering. China has 1 billion people, and the Chinese government doesn’t want a revolution,” said Gohmert, R-Tyler. “If we go broke, their economy collapses. They’re trying to force us into bankruptcy as a nation, leaving (China) as the lone superpower.”
U.S. debt is out of control, with China and the European Union advising American leaders to curb spending, Gohmert said. Even more troubling is President Barack Obama’s $3.6 trillion budget proposal that would leave a more than $1 billion shortfall, he said.
“Two-point-five trillion dollars is enough if we’ll get the government out of some of these things that are killing us,” he said.
Gohmert pointed to efforts to socialize health care as a step in the wrong direction. For example, he said, 98 percent of American breast cancer patients survive at least five years after their diagnosis. In the United Kingdom, where Gohmert said socialized medicine makes it harder to get X-rays, mammograms and radiation or surgery, the five-year survival rate is 78 percent, he said.
“Therefore, one in five people are going to die of breast cancer (in the U.K.),” Gohmert said. “Government-run health care is not a solution to health care.”
Hayden Burns said he plans to attend Texas State Technical College in Marshall for a technical career after graduation. He said the availability of college financial aid concerns him most.
“I just hope that it doesn’t get any worse than it already is,” Burns said.

I had not read that article previously. The reporter did a poor job and did not quote me accurately nor does the headline. I really do not like that article because of what it inaccurately has me saying. China is not trying to force into bankruptcy right now. That would be insane. I said some day they are hoping their economy will be strong enough that if we go broke, they will be strong enough to stand without us which would make them the lone superpower. But they would be destroyed right now if we go bankrupt. Bad quotes. I would rather not have this as a story because it is so inaccurate starting with the title.

In the contribution area, one of the categories should be $2,400 and the only thing above that really should have info that only a federally registered PAC can contribute more than that up to $5,000 then leave a space for them to fill in the amount. Thanks.
